Talisman

Sometimes we want to

lock pain in, close

the door fast, take leave

where it cannot

grow

breathe

touch

or heal

yet

buried

stifled

numb

we feel

it, still

Time comes to find

the door ajar

inside, the familiar

older, condensed

upon itself, pain

Fitting into the hollow

like a stone from your

pocket, leaping into your palm

you remember its

color

weight

shape

worn smooth

from long carrying

You could hide it

away again

or

bring it into the

light, discovering

streaks and sparkles

you could not see

until you opened your hand

to let go

“The doors to the world of the wild Self…” ~Clarissa Pinkola Estes

“Durdle Door” Nigel Chadwick, 2008. (CC A-S A 2.0)

“The doors to the world of the wild Self are few but precious. If you have a deep scar, that is a door, if you have an old, old story, that is a door. If you love the sky and the water so much you almost cannot bear it, that is a door. If you yearn for a deeper life, a full life, a sane life, that is a door.”
-Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Both Ways Open

“Open door on a garden” Konstantin Somov, 1869-1939 (USA Public Domain)

Letting words

out, the door

works both ways

open. People

get in too.
